my first doggy birthday

Look at that face.

I dare you not to smile at this little mishmash of body parts. Of all the reasons I've ever devised to drink wine and eat cake, I think the creation of this being is a worthy one. Did you see his neck? I would like to point out that in this photo his neck is cut in half with a scarf and it still looks like that. I don't want you to think about it too hard but he is a German Shepard/ Chihuahua mix and today we celebrated his third birthday.

I've been to exactly one toddler's birthday in my life and it went about the same as this one. His mom made him a cake that he put his face into. He inexpertly pulled some toys out of a bag and had them strewn about. The extra attention excited him for a few minutes and an hour into the party he was passed out with his mouth open. So I think it was about what you would expect.

It was a truly gorgeous day and hanging out on their balcony in the woods was a perfect way to relax after taking care of our frankly ridiculous lawn. Alex did the mowing and I did the..... I'm not really sure what you would call it. I was trying to get all the weeds and trim some plants and get the edges of the grass but we don't have any tools so I was basically just tearing at plants with my hands all afternoon. I got out some aggression and probably made the neighbors nervous and all I really accomplished was making our yard look like someone had been tearing at the edges of it with their hands for a while.

So anyway that was our day. It was lovely and relaxing and we got to end it by spending time with some of our favorite people. Now I'm trying to type very quietly as Alex forces himself to sleep in preparation for tomorrow's Birdathon. Fair warning: tomorrow's post will be about BIRDS!
