downsizing

New home, less room.

It's amazing how much junk accumulates. And I know that's a cliche but it's also true. I find myself in a new living situation where I'm renting a room in a home rather than having nearly a full house to myself and the amount of possessions that have piled up is daunting. It's like what happens to snakes or koi fish- they grow as long as their environment permits it. Give a python a bigger cage and watch it add a couple of inches. Give a girl a 4 bedroom house and watch her drag all sorts of shit home from Goodwill, or Craigslist, or her mom's house or whatever it takes to fill the place up. Like a fucking hoarder or something (got to fill all the nooks and crannies!).

Well now its time to put that crazy train in reverse. I'd like to think this will be easier than cutting off my tail to fit back into a smaller cage. It really doesn't feel like a cage. It feels like the reverse of that. Smaller room but greater capacity for action. Less stuff amounts to less time taking care of it, less furniture to hold it, less stress about the next move. Don't get me wrong, downsizing is a bitch but I'm now in a situation where the alternative isn't really an option. To that voice that is always nagging to get of things: well guess what, you are getting your wish. This will be good for both of us.

  1. I've been downsizing my hoarder's loot as well. It is a freeing task, I find.

  2. After watching a documentary on Minimalism I went through the house attic to sheds and purged every drawer, shelf and closet. It was awesome. I hope you enjoy destuffing your life.

    2. You know I still organize my closet the way you used to when we were younger; first by sleeve length, then by color. You are my organization role model.
